«The portrait of a woman, the silhouette of a young Mediterranean girl, wearing a suggesting hat easily fit over her long extended and dark hair dividing her look, hiding half face, suggesting the other half, shaped lips showing an inviting gesture».
This is Penelope, a discotheque born in Benidorm, a Mediterranean coast city back in 1968 (and still working, after more than 40 years).
But – strange things – in Spain this logo is seen much more when driving Spanish roads (on the back of the vehicles as stickers), being an outstanding element of our wonderful «España Cañí» way of life. And I bet that most of the owners of these vehicles never put their feet on this Disco:
The origin of this logo comes from a unknown bohemian artist of the 60´s, who saw a beautiful unknown girl, modern, ahead of her time, and made a portrait destined to be one the of the most known symbols all around our country.
I did find no information about the artis nor the girl. But it would be great to know what happened to both model and designer.

I live in Madeira Island, Portugal… And I saw a bunch of those stickers in cars and motorcycles on the 80’s and 90’s.
Now and then I still see someone with that 🙂
